Eco Club

We have been very busy this year in our Eco Club.  The aim of the club is to use sustainable products for our arts and crafts and also use those left over bits and pieces that seem to lurk in classrooms and cupboards, and also go outside and see how we can improve our school grounds making it an even lovelier learning environment for pupils and staff.   We are also been mindful of the environment and wildlife in our after school club.

During Autumn term we:

  • made bonfire pictures using leaves picked up from Curwen Park
  • made bird feeders to help during the cold winter months
  • weeded our school grounds to clear the rubbish
  • made our grounds ready for new planting.
  • used recycled cardboard rolls and wool that we already had in school to make little bobble hats - that we think looked amazing!

Now we have started our Spring term, we are looking forward to going outside a little more to plant seeds but we also have some wonderful indoor activities planned just in case!

Planting Herbs

Today saw the start of our new Phunky Foods cookery after school club.  Children learned the 'claw' holding technique and practiced their new skill by making a pizza with lots of yummy toppings.

Thank you to Amanda - our Phunky Foods Ambassador - for helping us today!

Phunky Foods Pizza!

Phunky Foods Pudding!

Today in our Phunky Foods after school club we practised using a claw grip when cutting, followed a recipe and weighed our ingredients.

Phunky Foods Potato and Leek Soup!

We learnt a new skill this week - following a recipe and using a potato peeler safely.  We all enjoyed peeling and cutting our potato and onion for our potato soup this week.  The leeks were added and we noticed that they were a lot easier to cut than the potato.

Easter Nests!

As this is our final cookery club before Easter, we made easter nests.  We weighed all our ingredients, melted chocolate and followed a recipe.  We also enjoyed putting mini eggs on the top of our nests as a special treat for when we get home!
