World Book Day 2024

We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. The children dressed up as their favourite book character and brought their favourite book to school to share with their class. In the morning we held a wonderful coffee morning in the school hall where so many families joined us to read with their children whilst enjoying a cake and a cuppa! In the afternoon, Year 6 held a 'book shop' where every child in school could choose a book to take home with them. You only have to look at the smiling faces of our pupils to see how much they enjoyed their day!

Reading with Mitchy

Mitchy, the reading dog, and his owner Evelyn have visited our school each week to listen to some of our younger pupils reading. The children have been very excited to share stories with Mitchy and we really think that Mitchy has enjoyed listening to them (as well as enjoying lots of hugs!). This is a lovely way for our younger pupils to gain confidence with their reading in a very calm and nurturing environment. Over the next few weeks, more of our pupils will have the opportunity to participate in this wonderful activity.

Local Author Visit - Helen Haraldsen

We enjoyed a fantastic morning with local author Helen Haraldsen, who used to teach at our school! Helen is the author of 10 books, one of which, 'A Tale of Two Shoes' is used as a class text in Year 2. Helen really inspired us with the story of how she became an author and how she developed the skills of practice, patience and perseverance through her writing. Helen worked with our Year 2 pupils and inspired them to write their own stories. She then worked with Year 5, where they got the opportunity to ask lots of questions and take part in a fun quiz!

Team Evie Reading Challenge

We took part in the Team Evie Reading Challenge to coincide with World Book Day. Each child challenged themselves with a personal reading target and collected sponsors from family and friends. We were delighted to raise over £1200 for this amazing charity and are so proud that the money we have raised will be spent on buying books for children and families who are in hospital.
