Our School Councillors!
Meeting the Mayor of Workington
Our two year 6 School Councillors went to the Town Council in Workington in November to meet the Mayor of Workington and also take part in the first Schools Youth Council group organised by the Mayoral offices. They heard about how the Mayor is elected, the duties of the Mayor, all about the history of Workington and lots more interesting facts.
Our school is taking part in an initiative run by the Mayoral offices where they want to hear what school children want to see in Workington. We brought back a questionnaire to complete and are looking forward to the next meeting.
Our school councillors were very respectful and asked interesting questions. They also held the mace that the Mayor takes with him to his official engagements.
